Review:

[contains minor spoilers for the first book, inkheart.]

i definitely liked this better than the first book. while in the first book the characters of a book come to life, in this one the real life characters go into the book world.

i loved the inkworld because it reminded me of all the childhood fantasies i had. there were fairies, elves, glassmen, princes and evil kings. also the wayless woods reminded me of mirkwood and sherwood forest.

there was much more character development in this book and each character had their roles to play. and they did it well. my favourite character development (not character) had to be fenoglio, the old man who wrote the book. i loved how he was portrayed as a good man trying to help but eventually has his own selfish ideas, his arc was pretty well done.

the character dynamics and their relationship to each other was also pretty interesting. the romantic subplot between meggie and farid did annoy me but it was ultimately overtaken by farid being pre occupied about dustfinger and meggie being worried about mo and resa.

the plot was well written, the characters all had a role to play rather than just meggie trying to save them all. The adderhead, the villian, was pretty basic with his fear of death and search for immortality. I think Mortola would have been a much better villian but she barely had scenes in the book. I did have an issue with the ending though. It was all good until the last two or three chapters which obviusly happened to set up the premise for book three but it felt very cheap. like it would be obvious as to what would happen to the characters because of orpheus (cant say more than that it will be spoilery).

overall a good story, great characters and i am excited for book 3 because i want know more about my favourite character (who dies in book 2 but apparently has a role to play in the third book).
