Toby Allen, illustrations on what mental illnesses would look like as monsters:

Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder where the person who has it has the urge to lose weight and has an illogical fear of gaining weight as well. The person has an obsession with having a super thin body and has strange eating patterns as well.

There are two common types of anorexia, which are as follows:

  1. Anorexia Nervosa Binge / Purge Type                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 he/she who is suffering from anorexia nervosa binge / purge type, will purge when he or she eats. This is usually because the guilt they feel after they think that they have eaten too much so they compensate by vomiting, abusing laxatives, or excessively exercising.
  2. Restrictive Anorexia Nervosa

In this form of anorexia nervosa, the person will fiercely limit the quantity of food consumed and effectively slowly starves him or herself.

I told myself I could eat for the past few days but I shouldn't have because I can't afford that and I don't want to eat again:

Though two classifications of anorexia nervosa exist, both types exhibit similar symptoms, such as irrational fear of weight gain and abnormal eating patterns.

An individual suffering from anorexia nervosa may reveal one or several signs and symptoms such as:

  • Chronic dieting despite being hazardously underweight
  • Obsession with calories and fat contents of food
  • Amenorrhea: an abnormal absence of menstruation, or loss of 3 consecutive menstrual cycles
  • Depression or lethargic stage
  • Reported sensation of feeling cold, particularly in extremities
  • Loss or thinning of hair
  • Avoidance of social functions, family and friends. May become isolated and withdrawn

Pro Ana Mia Diary:

Given the complexities of anorexia nervosa, a professional treatment team involving medical doctors, dietitians, and therapists is necessary for the recovery from this eating disorder. Effective, holistic eating disorder treatment for anorexia involves three necessary components:

  1. Medical: The highest priority in the treatment of anorexia nervosa is addressing any serious health issues that may have resulted from malnutrition, such as an unstable heart beat.
  2. Nutritional: This component encompasses weight restoration, implementation and supervision of a tailored meal plan, and education about normal eating patterns.
  3. Therapy: The goal of this part of treatment is to recognize underlying issues associated with the eating disorder, address and heal from traumatic life events, learn healthier coping skills and further develop the capacity to express and deal with emotions.

The details above are what I found by using Google. I dont know much about this as I havent been through it personally nor do i know anyone who has it. But I have watched enough documentaries and movies to know what it is like.

Because of diseases like this it is so so important to spread body positivity and show people that you dont have to be skinny to be pretty.

And never ever tell a girl she is fat. I mean some people, like me, dont really take it seriously and continue stuffing themselves with cake but there are people out there who get affected by these things. You may call a little too sensitive but you have to understand. its hard I know to try and filter your mouth for every little thing. But we have to try.

And that is all. I really missed these posts. So I do hope to continue this series Insha Allah. So stay tuned. Every month I will be talking about a different mental illness.

and till then take care okay.
