"A small town, quiet and quaint. It sounded like the kind of place where people valued people and not their shopping bags and cell phones.... It felt like storybook perfection. ...

It was too good to be true."

Review:

Told in a dual point of view of the past and the present, the story is a mix of suspense and mystery throughout. Fey moves into the small town called Soura Heights after finding out that her husband died there, even though he had no reason to be anywhere near that place. After a year of living and getting acquainted with the people of Soura heights, she realizes that she must overcome her fear of the forest and find out what really happened to her husband.

The story was pretty gripping from the get-go but as the pages went on, the clues and the mystery started to unravel in a pretty predictable plot. Although the mystery itself was simple and easy to solve given the clues and the foreshadowing the author had done, I was more interested in the character itself. Fey is portrayed as weak and pretty much a feather moving with the wind, as to how she pulled around by the arm by Frankie so I really was intrigued as to how her character will develop throughout the book and how she overcomes her fear of the forest. I must say it was handled pretty well although I did want a little bit more from the ending.

My favourite of the book was Louise, the crazy old lady and her strange coded messages. I loved trying to decipher her words and trying to figure out the mystery. Also the punny names of the stores at Soura Heights! Check it out for a quick thriller fix.
