Synopsis :

One Life to One Dawn.

In a land ruled by a murderous boy-king, each dawn brings heartache to a new family. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, is a monster. Each night he takes a new bride only to have a silk cord wrapped around her throat come morning. When sixteen-year-old Shahrzad's dearest friend falls victim to Khalid, Shahrzad vows vengeance and volunteers to be his next bride. Shahrzad is determined not only to stay alive, but to end the caliph's reign of terror once and for all.

Night after night, Shahrzad beguiles Khalid, weaving stories that enchant, ensuring her survival, though she knows each dawn could be her last. But something she never expected begins to happen: Khalid is nothing like what she'd imagined him to be. This monster is a boy with a tormented heart. Incredibly, Shahrzad finds herself falling in love. How is this possible? It's an unforgivable betrayal. Still, Shahrzad has come to understand all is not as it seems in this palace of marble and stone. She resolves to uncover whatever secrets lurk and, despite her love, be ready to take Khalid's life as retribution for the many lives he's stolen. Can their love survive this world of stories and secrets?

Review :

I think i bought this book without knowing anything about it so I was surprised when I found out that it was an 'Arabian Nights' retelling. I love that story so I was really excited to get into this.

However as the story progressed I realized that I had already guessed everything that was going to take place. Basically the plot was too predictable for me not because I had already read the 'Arabian Nights' and all that but like the characters what they would do, who they get with and all I could easily guess. Basically non of the plot twists also surprised me.

The character was  very interesting in the beginning but as I turn the pages she kept dumbing down (If that makes sense). And the love triangle was horrible. It didnt make sense and was so frustrating.

But on the other hand I really liked the writing style of this author. It was beautifully written. The words and sentences strung together in a harmonious manner, if you get what I am trying to say here.

All in all I kinda enjoyed the book because it was nicely written and the story wasnt too bad but I wish that it was better written plot wise and that Shahrzad was a better person. Also I knew this was a very hyped up book last year so I am really dissapppointed that way as well. It is also a duology but I am still unsure as to whether to buy the second book or not.
