Annual Colombo Bookfair 2018 Haul

Hello!

I bought these books over a month ago at the annual bookfair held at BMICH. Pretty happy with my haul because these were books that I really wanted to buy. Because I had already spent much at the big bad wolf haul I decided to buy only books that I really really wanted to read. It was hard to do so but I did manage it so hurrah for me (:
If you have read any of these books let me know what you think of them in the comments.

  • Murder on the Orient Express // Agatha Christie

Murder on the Orient Express (Hercule Poirot, #10)

What more can a mystery addict desire than a much-loathed murder victim found aboard the luxurious Orient Express with multiple stab wounds, thirteen likely suspects, an incomparably brilliant detective in Hercule Poirot, and the most ingenious crime ever conceived?

I haven't read Agatha Christie since I left school which is more than a year ago 😮, so I thought of getting this because there is also a movie based on it.

  • The English Patient // Michael Ondaatje

The English Patient

With ravishing beauty and unsettling intelligence, Michael Ondaatje's Booker Prize-winning novel traces the intersection of four damaged lives in an Italian villa at the end of World War II. Hana, the exhausted nurse; the maimed thief, Caravaggio; the wary sapper, Kip: each is haunted by the riddle of the English patient, the nameless, burned man who lies in an upstairs room and whose memories of passion, betrayal, and rescue illuminate this book like flashes of heat lightning.

I have heard of this book many times and even read about it in the papers when the Gratiaen Awards because apparently the author is the one who initiated it. And I am also trying to read books written by local authors so yeah.

  • The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle // Haruki Murakami

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle

In a Tokyo suburb a young man named Toru Okada searches for his wife's missing cat. Soon he finds himself looking for his wife as well in a netherworld that lies beneath the placid surface of Tokyo. As these searches intersect, Okada encounters a bizarre group of allies and antagonists: a psychic prostitute; a malevolent yet mediagenic politician; a cheerfully morbid sixteen-year-old-girl; and an aging war veteran who has been permanently changed by the hideous things he witnessed during Japan's forgotten campaign in Manchuria.

I have heard alot about Haruki Murakami's books on bookstagram and I was curious so now I have a copy.

Night Rise (Book 3 : Power of Five) // Anthony Horowitz

Nightrise (The Gatekeepers, #3)

The world is in great danger—and only five kids can save it. But to do that, they must face off against some of the most powerful people in the world. Two of the five, Scott and Jamie, have always known they were different. Twins whose birth is shrouded in mystery, they’ve always been able to communicate with each other telepathically. Their supernatural talent has landed them no farther than a gig in a Z-grade sideshow in Reno, Nevada...until they garner the attention of a very scary clientele. Soon their lives are in jeopardy, with one of them trapped and one of them on the run.

I read the first book in this series quite some time back and I did own some of the books. But now I have all four of them, I should be motivated to complete this series soon.

With Love,
