Book Review : The Wonderful Life of an Anti Social Loner // @Tealmemories
Ola!
Today am finally going to review a book written by the winner of the OS.N one shot competition. If you haven't read her entry yet here's the link.
My rating : 4.3/5
Sypnosis :
'Talk?'
'Yeah, talk.'she said simply, sitting on the edge of his bed.
'Elise-'
'Dylan, yes I know you are going to tell me I shouldn't be here and that I should stay away but wasn't it you who said that what we are forbidden from is what we most want?'
He couldn't suppress the smile that formed automatically on his face,
'okay, fine..what is it that you want to talk about?'
'I want to figure out how and why both of us are involved in whatever is happening right now.'
'And how do you plan on doing that?'
'By starting at the past, we'll have to trust each other...'
Dylan and Elise never imagined that that everything that went wrong in their lives went wrong because of the same people, on the same night...
He was the gloom, she was the rainbow.
But they did have one thing in common, a horrible past they both wanted to forget....
Life's wonderful isn't it?
Review :
Aaaah this book was wonderful ;)
So basically you think that its about a boy who is anti social and how a girl comes into his life and changes everything. Sounds cliché right? But there is more in this story. Its not all rainbows and sparkles at the end at all. It has plenty of dark topics sprouting up here and there with a lot of good messages being told through them.
Sadie's writing style is similar to many young adult authors' that I've read but at the same time she has her own charm as well.
One of my favourites about this book is the topic it revolves around. An anti social boy, Dylan. According to what I have learnt so far and based statistics and facts that I've read about it says that a lot of anti social people usually end up as psychopaths, serial killers and so on. And they are not talking about the normal anti socialness that this generation is all about. Its that kind of anti social ness where you don't want to be with anyone at all. You are completely physically and mentally detached from all sorts of things. And due to all the bottling up you tend to sorta become crazy and violent. Kinda like a dormant volcanoes you know. Never erupt and then all of a sudden BOOM! Pretty scary eh? And this book shows that you need that one person whose willing to go above and beyond to make sure you stay here. You stay sane. And don't end up erupting at all.
And in this book it was Elise, the other main character. She was this rainbow in Dylan's grey clouds and I loved how Sadie used this character to bring Dylan out of his dark phase. I loved how it showed hope and the fact that you are never truly alone in this world.
But at the same time I think Sadie could have done better. Now am no pro at all this but I felt like Dylan's and Elise's relationship progressed a bit too fast than it realistically would have for an anti social boy. I am thinking it would have taken a lot longer than a couple of weeks to get Dylan out of his big black unburstable bubble. I think other than that and a few other stuff (which I cant mention cuz then it would spoil the story) the story was quite good. Definitely learnt a few new things and yeah. This is getting awkward so am gonna stop now.
That is it so oh wait #DYLISE =D
One of my fave otp so had to mention it.
