NaNoWriMo 2015: My Experience
Hello dear readers.
If you guys didnt know I took part in this year's Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month). Its basically a writing challenge where you have to write 50,000 words in a month. Nanowrimo takes place every November and I decided to take part this year. I entered a story under the 'Teen Fiction/ Young Adult' category. 'Waffling Through My Life' is basically 'Over Spilt Nescafè' in Alvin's POV. You can click on the names to go read them on wattpad if you havent yet. They are still ongoing stories.
So the big bang is that I actually managed to finish a 50,000 word novel in a month which is a huge accomplishment for me because I am that person that either writes 1000 words a day or 1000 words a month. It took me a year and a half to finish 50,000 words on OSN but only a month for WTML. Maybe I should join these writing challenges and competitions more. Hmmm.
Okay so I started off writing pretty much fine. According to the Nanowrimo you write 1670 odd words per day you can finish 50,000 by the end of November. And I did just that for the first three days of the month. But then school came in. I had exams coming up in like three weeks (btw its tomorrow now) and I had classes to go to and homework and self studying to do. So when the first weekend came around the corner I binge wrote. I think I managed to write around 6000 words that weekend.
The second week of nano came by and it was the same. So the second weekend also I was binge writing. Studying for an hour writing the next. I even got scolded from my parents for barely coming out of the room (they didnt know I took part at the nanowrimo ^_^)
The third week of nano was when I actually got some proper writing done. I would study all evening and stay up most of the nights writing. And then end up going to school resembling a zombie. It was hard trying not to fall asleep during the lessons. Very very hard.
Then on Saturday I was doing the usual one hour study the next hour write routine when I wanted to know how much I had written so far. And to my surprise I had exceeded the 50,000 word mark!!!! I was pretty much sqeauling for a five whole minutes and jumping up and down because I had done it!!! I had actually written 50,000 words in a month!!!!
Here's what I didnt know. I thought that I had to write atleast 50,000 words of my story for it to be eligible to win but instead the whole thing is about writing 50,000 words. And man the prizes are good. I can claim them tomorrow I guess so cant wait.
By the way 'Waffling through my life' is still not completed even though it has passed the mark. I still have a couple of more chapters to write to finish the novel. Same with 'Over Spilt Nescafè'. My goal is to finish the first drafts of the book before this year ends. I have already pre written a lot of chapter for WTML because of this nanowrimo so updates on wattpad will be every two to three days OSN will be every five to seven days.
Well thats a lot to take in. If you want to know more about NaNoWriMo check out their website:
