Book Review : The Diabolic // S.J.Kincaid

The Diabolic (The Diabolic, #1)

Synopsis :

Nemesis is a Diabolic. Created to protect a galactic Senator's daughter, Sidonia. There's no one Nemesis wouldn't kill to keep her safe. But when the power-mad Emperor summons Sidonia to the galactic court as a hostage, there is only one way for Nemesis to protect Sidonia.

She must become her.

Now one of the galaxy's most dangerous weapons is masquerading in a world of corruption and Nemesis has to hide her true abilities or risk everything. As the Empire begins to fracture and rebellion looms closer, Nemesis learns that there is something stronger than her deadly force: the one thing she's been told she doesn't have - humanity. And, amidst all the danger, action and intrigue, her humanity might be the only thing that can save her, Sidonia and the entire Empire.

Review :

This book was so good!
  • No petty love triangle
  • brilliant and perfectly flawed characters
  • pretty decent dystopian / sci fi plot

That like sums up this whole thing doesnt it :)
Okay then am done.
jks ;p

The writing in the book was good. Explained the unknown info pretty decently and conveyed emotions very nicely too. Its a sci fi actiony book so I didnt really expect anything poetic.
The plot was quite interesting. Yes it had the overthrowing the government sorta vibe but I liked the way it did in this book. The plot twists were actually plot twists. Most of them werent very predictable which I liked. I hate it when I already guess the whole story and there is no surprising element at all.

The characters woah they were really well woven. Nemesis, the main protagonist, is amazing. She is so cool with her moves and all. Like she actually talks about how she can kill and she proves how good she is at fighting too. A character that talks the talk and walks the walk with a bit of swagger too, if you know what I mean.

I love her relationship with Sidonia, the person she is created to protect. Its a beautiful friendship and her loyalty is something to admire (even though she is a created being)

But the one thing I loved throughout the whole book was NO FREAKING LOVE TRIANGLE!!! Oh my gosh. I was seriously expecting it because all YA novels have them these days but no. This book didnt and I was so so glad. Thank you S.J.Kincaid for not having one.

At the end of it all I definitely recommend this book. But I heard its going to be a trilogy and the second book is already out and the third book is coming this fall 2018. I am not too sure about having a continuation because I was quite satisfied with the ending, although it could have had a little bit more explanation, so I might or might not pick it up.

Also I have heard quite a lot of mixed reviews about the second book, mostly leaning towards negative but the overall rating is like a 3.9 on Goodreads so yeah 50/50 chance of me picking it up.

Till next time,
